VEGA GRIND | SLB say what?

So why run for the SLB? Granted it doesn't have a history of success. But now is the time to change that story. Join the SLB to make a new start. We need leaders to fulfill specific roles and bring Vega forward.

Below is en excerpt from the Policy:

The SLB and the social co-coordinator are particularly tasked with ensuring that activities meet the needs of the full range of students on the campus and include social, sport and cultural activities of interest to the particular campus community.
Thus, the SLBs are tasked under the leadership of the social co-ordinator, with the support of the student relations manager to:

•  Ensure that the campus experience extends beyond the academic experience by creating  an environment in which students can develop positively and holistically;
•  Initiate and advance student social, cultural and sporting events;
•  Promote the name and the image of the college;
•  Initiate and facilitate community engagement activities. 

So essentially, what happened last year where all Class Representatives and the SLB had joint meetings every two weeks, will not happen this year. It will be the smaller group of the SLB who meet fortnightly and they will then organise a monthly meeting with the Class Representatives who make up the Academic Representation and Senate, when Vega wide issues will be addressed. 

The SLB needs to be comprised of a minimum of 6 individuals, who want to help create a community within Vega, enabling the idea of Generation V to thrive. Within the six there needs to be the following positions filled (taken from the policy):

• Portfolios to include chairperson, treasurer, secretary and individuals responsible for sport, social and community initiatives;

•  Meeting frequency at least fortnightly;

•  Reporting minutes to be retained by the staff member co-ordinating the SLB and made available to the campus management. Minutes to be retained and made available to The IIE on request;

•  Code of conduct/ constitution/ rules each member of the SLB needs to personally sign an agreement that circumscribes his or her role and the manner in which the SLB conducts itself against the mandate;

•  Budget responsibility for any funds used rests with the staff member responsible but the SLB should be involved in planning the use of the funds. 

Remember that if you fill one of these positions and work within the assigned portfolio, you will receive a certificate stating that you held the postion, this can then be added to your CV, showing yourself as a 'Go-Getter' and an individual who likes to make things 'Happen'.

This year the staff member working with the SLB will be Alice and the good news is that there is already a small petty cash stash waiting to be utilised and grown by the SLB. This is your chance to help create an environment and community that you want to be part of.
